About Bill Idle
After leaving the radio industry in the spring of 1993, He returned to working at the Brookville Star, helping to cover Brookville, Dixie, Tri-County North, and Twin Valley South. In February 2001, he was named Sports Editor of the Star for football and basketball. He served in that capacity until Aim Media Midwest purchased the Star in 2017, and he stepped away to cover football and basketball, primarily Brookville as a staff contributor. Bill has loved every minute of covering sports, especially High School sports.
Bill Idle is a native of Brookville, a 1973 graduate from Brookville High School. He has been reporting Brookville High Schools sports since December of 1972, save ten years when he was in radio broadcasting, five of which were out of Ohio.
Bill got his start when Ted Landis, the Sports Editor of the Brookville Star, met and asked him to help his nephew, Keith Huffman, cover a Brookville vs. Arcanum Basketball game between Christmas and New Year’s in 1972. Ted was out of state visiting relatives at the time. Bill always loved sports, instilled by his father Virgil Idle, and was honored to help cover the game. He then helped Mr. Landis cover Brookville the rest of the season and assisted in broadcasting a tournament game on WCTM radio. His sports writing then has always been part-time at Brookville, which he considers labor of love for the high school athletes.
While writing for the Brookville Star Newspaper for the next 11 years, he covered baseball, volleyball, basketball, and football. In addition, when the Englewood Independent Newspaper started, The Star helped them cover Northmont football and basketball. Bill covered these two sports. He stayed with the Star until he left Ohio to follow his dream of working in radio.
In December 1983, he moved to Carmi, Illinois, and worked for WROY/WRUL radio covering news and sports. Other stations he worked for included KNKH in Bay City, Texas in 1985, WAGF Dothan, Alabama in 1986, WKEU AM/FM in Griffin, Georgia in 1987, KMTM in Jackson, Wyoming for three months in 1998 before moving to Bellefontaine, Ohio in December of 1988 to work for WPKO/WBLL radio.

Bill was married to Anne Oursler from 1983 until she died in 2004. In 2009 he met, and Susan Reilich, and in 2012 they married.
